Mayville State University
MAYVILLE, N.D. (KFGO) – An audit of Mayville State University has found that the college is incorrectly giving out tuition wavers.
The North Dakota State Auditor’s Office says that cultural diversity and athletic waivers were being given out to students that did not meet the requirements.
The office says during a two year biennium period that ended last summer, the school gave out more than $700,000 dollars to 331 students.
During that period, 53 students received both of those waivers at the same time for a total of more than $75,000. The auditor’s office says that students cannot receive two waivers.
The audit says some employees in the athletics department did not understand how waivers are supposed to be awarded, and were offering them as financial aid before the student applied to go to school. The audit also says that waivers were being promised for more money than the amount budgeted.
The auditor’s office says when waivers are issued the university has to find other ways to pay, which could mean North Dakota Tax Payers would have to help pay the bill.
