ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) – Former President Barack Obama has endorsed democratic U.S. Senate candidate Peggy Flanagan for Minnesota’s open seat. Obama says that Flanagan fought for important change in Minnesota, like raising the state’s minimum wage and helping pass paid family leave.
“Now she’s running for senate to fight, for universal healthcare, to take on corruption in Washington, and be a voice for Minnesotans in Washington. This year Minnesota showed the world what’s possible when communities stand up for what’s right. Now I’m asking you to do it again, make a plan to vote for Peggy Flanagan.” Obama said in an endorsement video.
Flanagan is facing Republican former sports broadcaster Michelle Tafoya, who received an endorsement from President Donald Trump earlier this month.
“You have to vote for Michelle Tafoya. who’s a very respected person while we’re at it. I should say it, she’s very respected. It’s hard to win because they cheat on their elections too. You know I thought I won Minnesota three times.” Trump said at a rally in Ohio.
Tafoya has downplayed the endorsement, saying she only cares about the endorsement of Minnesota voters.
The midterm election is just over a week away, November 3rd. Early voting in minnesota is underway.
