Lisa Demuth (R-Minn.)
SAINT PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) – Republican candidate for Minnesota Governor Lisa Demuth outlined her plan to protect whistleblowers regarding fraud.
State employees would be able to report fraud directly to the Legislative Auditor or Inspector General and their identity would be protected.
“A law only helps someone after the culprits have been punished. What we need is a government where speaking up is expected, protected and acted on before the damage is done,” Demuth explained.
A whistleblower coordinator would be put in every agency and no state official would be allowed to ask anyone to retaliate.
All reports involving crime would be forwarded to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
“Every union contract that my administration will negotiate will say it in black and white: cover up the fraud or retaliate against a whistleblower and you will be terminated,” Demuth said.
After becoming Minnesota Speaker of the House in February 2025, Demuth helped establish the Legislature’s first fraud prevention and state agency oversight committee.
