Quentin Burdick US District Courthouse in Fargo
FARGO (KFGO) – A 32-year-old man from the Democratic Republic of Congo was in federal court in Fargo Monday, accused of stealing more than $113,000 in a business email scam.
U.S. Attorney Nicholas Chase says Nicolas Mondani Oleko faces charges of wire fraud and bank fraud.
Federal investigators allege Oleko defrauded an auction business while living in North Dakota. The case is being investigated by the FBI.
Prosecutors urge all businesses to carefully verify vendor banking changes to bank and routing information with trusted sources outside of email to prevent similar fraud.
