Major fire breaks out at Mayville grain elevator

MAYVILLE, N.D. (KFGO) – A major fire broke out at a grain elevator in Mayville Saturday night. 

Multiple crews responded to O’Brien Seed and battled the blaze into the early morning hours Sunday. Compounding the problem were winds that carried embers from the scene. Fire crews and homeowners were hosing down homes within an eight- to nine-block radius of the elevator to help prevent further spread of the fire.

Traill-Steele Emergency Management says Mayville and Portland Fire and Rescue personnel will likely remain on scene for the next couple of days to manage any possible flare-ups. 

There is no word on the cause.
