MINNEAPOLIS (CBS-KFGO) – Police say a man was fatally shot while riding an electric scooter in northern Minneapolis early Friday morning.
Reports of gunfire brought officers to the 2100 block of Dupont Avenue North around 2:35 a.m., according to the Minneapolis Police Department. They found a man in his 20s with a life-threatening gunshot wound. The man later died at a nearby hospital.
Police say two men were on electric scooters when they heard gunfire. One collapsed hurt and the other called 911.
“This tragic loss of life is something we, as a community, simply cannot accept,” Police Chief Brian O’Hara said. “Our investigators are working urgently to determine whether this was a targeted or random act, and we need the public’s help. If you have any information, no matter how minor it may seem, please come forward.”
The victim has not been identified.
Minneapolis leaders say there will be increased law enforcement presence and road closures over the Fourth of July weekend to help keep the city safe for the holiday.
