Alonso Lebaron-Castro (Cass Co. Jail)
FARGO (KFGO) – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says a man has been arrested after a person dropped off suspicious packages at the 24/7 entrance to the jail around 6:50 a.m. Tuesday.
Sheriff Jesse Jahner said after the packages were left, a person contacted jail master control and indicated to staff members they should come and look at what was in the boxes.
“After our deputies did a quick assessment, they noticed some items in there that appeared suspicious to them, some wires and different things,” Jahner said. “As a precautionary measure, like we would normally do, we immediately locked down the jail to make sure the inmates and our staff were safe inside. Then, we set up a perimeter to keep people out of the area so they wouldn’t be exposed to whatever was in the box.”
Jahner said Fargo Fire and Police and the Red River Regional Bomb Squad responded. He said the device was not an explosive. Alonso Lebaron-Castro, 38, of West Fargo, was later arrested by deputies and West Fargo Police for DUI, and on drug possession and drug paraphernalia charges. There were also outstanding arrest warrants for Lebaron-Castro in Cass County and West Fargo. Potential criminal charges related to the package are pending
The jail was locked down until about 9:15 a.m.
