BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO) – With 34 confirmed cases, North Dakota has the highest rate of measles in the U.S.
According to data from the North Dakota Public Health Association, North Dakota’s rate of infection is 4.27 cases per 100,000 people. New Mexico’s 79 cases give it the second-highest rate with 3.71. There are 770 measles cases in Texas. With a population over 31 million, that state’s rate is 2.46 cases per 100,000 people.
North Dakota’s first cases were reported in early April in Williams County. There are also cases in Grand Forks, Cass and Burke Counties.
The most recent data show Minnesota has four cases of measles and South Dakota has one.
