GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KFGO) – The Grand Forks County State’s Attorney says an officer’s use of force in a deadly shooting last month was justified.
On Dec. 5, Grand Forks Police and county deputies responded to an apartment where 47-year-old Alice Nesdahl was holding a man hostage. The man told officers he was not allowed to leave the apartment and when he did try, Nesdahl tried stabbing him with a knife.
Officers deployed a drone which confirmed what the man was telling them. At one point, Nesdahl moved to a different room and the man opened the apartment door to leave. Nesdahl ran from the room, slammed the door shut, and locked it.
The officers determined the man faced imminent threat of serious injury or death and forced entry into the apartment unit. The State’s Attorney says that’s when the officers saw Nesdahl raise the knife to the victim’s throat at close range.
Deputy Cameron Bridger fired four rounds and struck Nesdahl more than once. Officers tried saving Nesdahl’s life at the scene. She was taken to a hospital where she died.
The State’s Attorney says the use of deadly force was reasonable and justified and no criminal charges will be filed.
