Police were notified Monday night about the potential social media threats and “multiple concerning messages posted online that referenced possible harm directed at several high schools within Independent School District 196.” On Tuesday morning, as some students were already at schools, the district announced four schools would close as police continued their investigation.
The teen who was arrested was transported to the Dakota County Juvenile Detention Center, with formal charges expected to be filed through the Dakota County Attorney’s Office.
Online threats also closed Burnsville High School and Burnsville Alternative High School. It’s unclear if the incidents are related.
