STEWARTVILLE, Minn. (KFGO) – Various law enforcement agencies are investigating a deadly shooting outside Stewartville High School, south of Rochester, Minnesota.
The shooting happened at about 5 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 12 in the school parking lot as the wrestling team was boarding a bus.
“One of the teammates was walking in the parking lot when a gunshot was heard by others. One victim was located on the ground in the parking lot by coaching staff. As other staff and students were looking around at that moment to see what happened and they heard a second shot,” Olmsted County Sheriff Kevin Torgerson.
The sheriff says the team was leaving for a wrestling tournament in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
The high school student is in critical, but stable condition. The man who shot the student died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
There’s no word on whether there’s any connection between the student and the gunman. The Sheriff’s Office has been in contact with both families. They have been cooperating with the investigation.
Classes were canceled on Friday for all Stewartville High School students.
