MSP International Airport
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (KFGO/Learfield) – Food service workers at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport won’t be going on strike during the Thanksgiving holiday travel period.
The union announced a tentative agreement with HMSHost, one of the airport’s largest food and beverage operators.
The new deal includes a first-ever tip line for fast food and barista workers, a higher tipped benefit, higher wages and access to affordable dependent health insurance coverage.
The agreement covers roughly 200 to 250 workers at MSP’s two terminals.
Another group of people working at MSP also got good news over the weekend. U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem made a stop at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Sunday to give bonus checks to some TSA workers.
Noem thanked the TSA agents for working without pay during the federal government shutdown and awarded $10,000 bonuses to 48 MSP employees.
A union spokesperson said less than 7% of the workforce at MSP who worked during the shutdown received a bonus. Nome said nominations and evaluations for the awards were handled at local airports.
