FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (KFGO KBRF) – An Ada, Minnesota woman was arrested for driving under the influence Sunday afternoon after crashing her car with her two children on I-94 east of Fergus Falls.
Otter Tail County prosecutors say Fergus Falls Police officers responded to a crash in the median. At the scene, police found Ashley Heitman, 40, in her SUV in the westbound lane with significant front-end damage.
No one was injured, but Heitman’s two children, ages 2 and 4 years-old, were also in the vehicle. The complaint says Heitman told officers that she had been driving from the Twin Cities. Police confirmed that there had been driving complaints from three other counties.
Prosecutors say Heitman showed multiple signs of impairment. A search of her vehicle found an empty strawberry margarita beverage, as well as a 1/4 full vodka mule in the center console. After speaking with an attorney, Heitman consented to a breath test, which showed a blood alcohol content level of .24.
Heitman has a previous DWI conviction.
