DICKINSON, N.D. (KFGO) – The State Bureau of Criminal investigation is investigating the shooting death of a 34-year-old man by a Dickinson police officer.
The shooting took place late Monday afternoon during a shots fired call.
Officers responded to the St. Alexius Hospital emergency department after receiving multiple requests from friends and family of the man to conduct a welfare check after he had made suicidal comments.
He was eventually located near the west parking lot of the hospital and fired a gun several times. Police established a perimeter and attempted to persuade him to drop the gun. At that point, an officer perceived an immediate lethal threat to officers and fired, killing the man. The officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
No officers or bystanders were injured.
