MOORHEAD (KFGO/KVRR) – As the federal government shutdown continues, area community members and legislators are speaking out about its negative impacts.
Labor union leaders held a press conference at the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead Wednesday. Many people spoke on the shutdown’s impacts. They included volunteers and furloughed workers. Minnesota State Rep. Heather Keeler and State Sen. Rob Kupec were also on hand. Kupec said the variety of speakers represented the seriousness of the present situation.
“I think it speaks to the broadness of these impacts,” said Kupec. “This isn’t just about SNAP, this isn’t just about health benefits. It’s the whole spectrum of our society that is being impacted by this.”
Keeler urged her constituents to donate as much as possible to local food banks and to contact legislators in Washington to urge them to re-open the government.
