BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO) — The Bismarck City Commission has picked Deputy Chief Jason Stugelmeyer to be the city’s next chief of police.
Stugelmeyer has been with the department for 24 years and was one of two finalists along with University of North Dakota Police Lt. Daniel Weigel.
“Our community is extremely fortunate to have such a qualified person to head our police department. I’m looking forward to working with Chief Stugelmeyer as he ensures Bismarck remains a safe place to live and work,” said Commissioner John Risch.
Stugelmeyer, a 2000 graduate of MSUM, replaces current Chief Dave Draovitch who is retiring at the end of the month. Stugelmeyer will take over the role Aug. 1.
