FARGO, N.D. (KVRR/KFGO) – There’s an update on Folkways’ request to close downtown Fargo streets for a world record attempt.
The organization plans to break the world record for the most s’mores eaten simultaneously at their Night Bazaar.
They hope to have over 1,200 people in the Broadway square area, so they submitted three separate street closure requests to ensure participants’ safety. But those were denied.
Folkways now says they’ve made progress in discussions and expect an amended plan to pass.
Joe Burgum, Executive Director of Folkways, explained, “Given the timeline, the prior communication with the city, staff had indicated they were not going to support our closure of Broadway. And that is what the commission voted on last Monday.”
“Since that meeting, there’s been a lot of wonderful community support, and I think a thoughtful pause by the commission, and I’ve been in touch with Commissioner Denise Kolpack. I do believe she is going to bring forth an amended motion for approval of closing one block of Broadway,” he added.
The big event is scheduled for 6 P.M. on July 24.
