MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Minneapolis police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened Tuesday night in the Elliot Park neighborhood, just southeast of downtown.
Police responded to a shooting just before 6:30 p.m. to the 1500 block of 11th Avenue S. and found a man suffering from life-threatening gun shot wounds, according to Police Chief Brian O’Hara.
“The information that we have indicates that there was an altercation between a group of individuals that were on the sidewalk behind me,” O’Hara said. “At some point, that altercation escalated when an individual pulled out a gun and gunfire resulted.”
O’Hara added that it was clear to investigators that the shooting was between known parties.
“It’s not random in that we believe that people are known to each other,” he said. “It’s too soon to say whether it’s a group or whether that person was the intended target. There’s multiple sources of video that is out here and we’re looking at several.”
The man who was in his 30s died at the scene. So far, there are no arrests.
“Residents in the neighborhood have dealt with some crime and quality of life issues here, particularly there’s some narcotics activity at times at the bus stops as there is in other locations around the city. And that’s been on our radar as well as the park police,” O’Hara said.
