MOORHEAD (KFGO) – A standoff near 23rd Street and 40th Avenue S. in Moorhead where a suspect who ran from law enforcement entered a house that is over. It ended shortly before noon Monday.
Officers with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Moorhead Police, the State Patrol, and Red River Regional SWAT were surrounding the house. Clay County Sheriff Mark Empting says the suspect had no relation to the house or two people who were inside when he came in. The two people, a woman and a child, were able to get out safely.
Empting says earlier in the morning, a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver fled. A backpack was thrown out the window of the vehicle. A State Patrol trooper was able to use spike strips to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was in a field about a quarter-mile from the house. A woman, a passenger in the car, stayed with the vehicle.
SWAT members entered the house through a garage door and gave commands for the suspect to come out, telling him he is under arrest. The suspect was in the attic and was eventually removed from the house and taken to a hospital to be checked over, although he did not suffer any physical injuries. No weapons were recovered.
He was later taken to the Clay County Jail.
