WAHPETON, N.D. (KFGO) – Multiple crews are working to contain a chemical spill at the Cargill Plant north of Wahpeton.
Emergency Manager Brett Lambrecht says the call came in around 5:45 a.m. Monday.
“We have a plume in the air of a chemical,” Lambrecht says. “Right now, we’ve evacuated a mile radius around the plant. It’s just two farmsteads that have been affected so far. The wind’s in our favor; it’s out of the south, blowing to the north. So, everything’s in our favor, blowing away from any big, populated areas.
Lambrecht says the leak is in one of the tanks. Hazmat teams from Fargo are en route to help seal the tank.
No injuries have been reported.
Dwight Fire, Wahpeton Police and Fire, the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, and a hazmat team from Fargo are assisting.
