MINNEAPOLIS (KFGO-WCCO) — A former Republican Minnesota state senator who resigned in disgrace after getting caught up in an underage prostitution sting in Bloomington is asking that the federal charges lodged against him be dropped.
Attorneys for 41-year old Justin Eichorn, who represented the Grand Rapids area before resigning in March, claim in court filings that their client is being singled-out with federal charges because he was public official.
They point out that of the 14 men arrested that day in March, only two are facing federal charges and unlike Eichorn, the other has a prior history of sexual assault.
Attorneys for Eichorn says that if he was subjected to state charges, the amount of jail time he would receive is likely half of a possible 10-year sentence on the federal charges.
There’s no response yet from the U.S. Attorney’s office.
