ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) – The Minnesota House passed three education bills Friday night. First, lawmakers passed the Education Budget bill which will offer increases in funding to schools and maintains the free breakfast and lunch program. Republican Peggy Bennett from Albert Lea says the bill offers what school districts were asking for.
“I love there’s local control in this bill. I love there’s funding flexibility and mandate relief,” Bennett said while addressing the House floor Friday.
The House also passed the Education Policy bill, and a separate bill that will cover $100 million dollars to provide unemployment insurance for hourly workers like bus drivers and cafeteria staff. They hope this will allow the schools to retain more of this staff.
