U.S. Rep. Julie Fedorchak and Sen. John Hoeven meet with veterans May 2025
WASHINGTON (KFGO) – Around 100 Korean and Vietnam war veterans are home from the latest Veterans Honor Flight of ND/MN in Washington, DC.
During their three days in the nation’s capitol, the veterans visited monuments, memorials, and museums dedicated to them and the military branches they served in. Among their stops were the National Archives, the National Mall, Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine in Baltimore, and Arlington National Cemetery where they watched the changing of the guard ceremony. They also had the chance to meet with a couple of North Dakota’s congressional delegation.
Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak greeted the veterans with coffee outside the National Archives Monday morning. She says each of the veterans is a hero.
“Very single one of them has a great story about how they defended and advocated for freedom all across the world,” Fedorchak says. “To come to the capitol and see all these monuments that are a tribute to their efforts, and then to see our system at work – seeing the capitol and the White House – I think it’s really a big deal for them.”
Sen. John Hoeven met the veterans on the platform in front of the Lincoln Memorial. He says meeting them is inspirational.
“You see these guys (and) they look like they could put the uniform back on today and go right back into battle,” Hoeven says. “They’re awesome, full of energy. Again, it’s just inspirational to see them. These Honor Flights are wonderful and I hope we keep doing them.”
