TAZEWELL COUNTY, Ill. – A teenager is charged with attempted murder for allegedly firing gunshots in East Peoria early Christmas morning in 2023.
Shell casings were found in the driveway, and multiple bullet holes were discovered in the front of a home on State Street in East Peoria, according to a Tazewell County court document.
The probable cause affidavit shows that 18-year-old Christopher Humes went to the home to sell marijuana to a minor, and once inside, he allegedly tried to rob the minor at gunpoint.
During a struggle, prosecutors said Humes fired at least one shot at the minor’s head before the gun jammed, but Humes reportedly was able to keep firing as he left.
According to 25 News, a neighbor’s surveillance video showed someone firing about 19 shots at the home.
There were no injuries.
Besides attempted murder, Humes is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Court records indicate that in a prior juvenile case, Humes was found to have been in possession of a stolen vehicle.
A detention hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, to determine if Humes will stay in jail until his trial on the new charges.
