PEORIA, Ill. – The odd man out in the race for Peoria mayor might be close to ending his campaign.
In a Facebook post, 2nd District Councilman Chuck Grayeb indicated may be conceding after coming in third of three candidates in the primary last week.
He says “it is almost impossible for us to finish ahead of John Kelly in the Mayoral Primary.”
Grayeb finished 109 votes behind at-large Councilman Kelly in the primary, with incumbent mayor Rita Ali receiving more than half of the vote. Grayeb received more vote-by-mail ballots, but Kelly received more on Election Day and Early Voting.
Grayeb congratulated both Ali and Kelly in the post, but says it “no way precludes a different result if there is an unlikely drop of lots of ballots where we would be favored.”
He also expressed appreciation for the opportunity to be on the City Council for 24 years.
The results of the primary will be certified March 12th, with early voting to take place a few days later.
