BISMARCK (KFGO) — North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley released the state’s 2024 crime data Tuesday.
The data shows violent crime fell by about 8.5% from 2023 to 2024. That includes a decrease in murders, down from 24 in 2023 to 19 in 2024.
But the numbers also show a continuation in a pattern Wrigley says is concerning. Crime has slowly increased in the state since 2020.
“Is this new normal that you hear so much about in the communities?” Wrigley said. “The question remains, is this new plateau, are we just going to accept it? Are we just going to just say there’s nothing that we can do about it?”
While overall crime rates fell, Wrigley says the numbers of DUI cases increased.
“There were 4,614 DUI arrests in the state of North Dakota. From 2021, it went up over 4%, went up almost 3%, and this year, almost 7%.”
Wrigley says his office will work to release the 2025 crime statistics by July 1, 2026.
