Site of Mayville elevator fire (Mayville Fire & Rescue)
MAYVILLE, N.D. (KFGO) – Clean up has begun at the site of the elevator in Mayville that burned down two weeks ago.
Mayville Fire & Rescue says to proceed with caution through the area as heavy equipment and smoke are making it hard to see at times. Crews are asking people to slow down and watch for moving equipment.
The O’Brien Seeds elevator was destroyed by fire on Saturday, Nov. 15. About a dozen fire departments responded to the scene along with an aerial truck from the Grand Forks Air Force Base.

The wind carried embers from the blaze and homeowners were told to hose down their roofs to prevent the fire from spreading further. There were no injuries.
Over the last couple of weeks, fire officials have been back out to the site suppressing flare-ups.
“Our goal is to limit smoke, debris, and flames as much as possible,” the department posted on social media.
The department says they are allowing the fire to burn down naturally to prevent ongoing issues, adding, there are risks with deploying trucks in cold temperatures.
The fire is being closely monitored through a camera and regular checks.
Traill County Sheriff Steve Hunt says a state fire investigator is looking into the cause of the fire.
