LAKOTA, N.D. (KFGO) – A Lakota man is facing several charges after being accused of child abuse, sexual assault of a child and domestic assault.
The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office responded around 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 19 to a home south of Lakota for a report of a domestic disturbance.
A woman and child talked with responding officers and said Brycen Sateren had been drinking and becomes angry when intoxicated. Court records note the child was visibly upset and crying. The child told deputies that Sateren touched her inappropriately about two weeks prior to this incident.
The woman says Sateren has hit her in the past and expressed concern for the safety of the child.
Child Protective Services conducted an interview with the child on Nov. 21. She told investigators that Sateren has been physically abusive to her and the woman for as long as she can remember.
“[Jane Doe] disclosed that Brycen has slapped, kicked, choked, and pinched her… She has had bruises on her face, throat, arms, legs, chest, vagina and buttocks from Brycen’s actions,” investigators wrote in court documents.
The woman and child sent photographs to investigators, which document the alleged abuse. Court records say the pictures show bruising on the child’s neck, blood on her cheek, a handprint on the side of her face, bruises on her calf, a swollen black eye, and bruising to the back of her thigh under the buttocks. Another photograph showed redness and swelling to the woman’s eye and cheek.
Brycen Sateren is charged with one count of child abuse, three counts of sexual assault (victim 15-17), and two counts of domestic violence. Bond has been set at $50,000 cash only and Sateren is ordered to have no contact with the two victims and an additional witness who reported the abuse.
