KITTSON CO., Minn. (KFGO/KVRR) — Kittson County Sheriff Matt Vig has identified the man found shot to death in his home in Karlstad, Minnesota as 57-year-old Kevin Sele.
Sele’s cause and manner of death are pending further investigation. Vig says that based on the information so far, investigators do not believe there is an ongoing threat to public safety.
“Please continue to be patient as we work to provide information as quickly and accurately as possible,” Chief Deputy Dave Thompson said. “Our job is to ensure that every “i” is dotted and every “t” is crossed. Without doing so, there’s a risk of releasing misleading information and that is simply not acceptable.”
Sele called 911 around 1 a.m. on Saturday saying an unknown person had entered his home, assaulted him and had his gun.
A dispatcher then heard a shot and Sele went silent. When deputies arrived, they found him dead with a weapon near his body.
His body was taken to UND Forensic Pathology for testing and an autopsy.
The Kittson County Sheriff’s Office thanked the community for their support and understanding, saying “please be patient with us.”
