FARGO (KFGO) — The Fargo Board of Education is reviewing proposed elementary boundary changes on the city’s north side for the 2026-27 school year. The adjustments are part of the district’s implementation plan of the new northside elementary school.
Under the proposed plan, boundaries would be adjusted for Washington, Horace Mann–Roosevelt, Madison, and Longfellow elementary schools. McKinley Elementary’s boundaries will not change.
Washington Elementary’s boundary would expand north, south, and west, including absorbing Longfellow’s attendance area east of Harwood.
Horace Mann–Roosevelt and Madison Elementary boundaries would shrink slightly, as some students from those areas would attend Washington.
The new northside elementary school, scheduled to open in 2028, will serve students currently attending Horace Mann-Roosevelt and Madison.
There will be no phase-in period; the new boundaries will apply starting in the 2026–27 school year. However, families of students in grades 2–4 who are affected by the changes at Horace Mann or Roosevelt may request to have their children remain at their current school through a grandfathering petition process. Petitions will be accepted from October 29 through April 1, 2026. Families who petition to remain will need to provide their own transportation.
A communications campaign will follow Board approval so all affected families receive updated maps and school assignments. The Board is expected to review the proposal at its October 28 meeting and consider final approval in mid-November.
