ST. PAUL, Minn. – The state of Minnesota’s lawsuit against Fleet farm for negligently selling guns to straw purchasers will move toward a trial.
Attorney General Keith Ellison says the retailer tried to obtain a summary judgment and have the the lawsuit dismissed, but a federal judge rejected it, ruling that Fleet Farm violated the Minnesota Gun Control Act. Straw purchasers buy guns and resell them on the black market. Ellison says it’s essential to hold businesses that contribute to violence accountable. Fleet farm is accused of ignoring warning signs.
A gun sold by the retain chain was used in a bar shooting in St. Paul in 2021 that killed one person and injured 14 others.
