ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO/MNN) – Severe storms and heavy rainfall continued to impact the region in July. Minnesota Assistant State Climatologist Pete Boulay says weather conditions from June continued this month.
“The whole state just in July so far we’re running about an inch above normal. If you look at both months put together about two-and-a-third inches above normal. So, overall most places are seeing a wet summer.” Boulay said. “”Everybody’s getting something, and quite a bit of tree damage over the last two storms in central and southern Minnesota. Two days in a row we had repeat events and some high winds”.
Boulay says we had multiple severe thunderstorms in July that brought damaging winds, hail, and heavy rainfall. He says the northwest corner of the state is only area with moderate drought conditions.
“The drought is on life support in the state right now. There’s not much left at all. A tiny little bit way up north, little bit of moderate drought hanging on. But other than that the rest of the state has adequate moisture, and looking at Ag Statistics Bulletin for this week a quarter of the state has too much moisture right now on the ground.” Boulay said.
The above normal precipitation is expected to continue in August.
