FARGO (KFGO-KVRR) – The Fargo Public School District has halted some teacher training and activity programs because the district has not received some anticipated federal grant allocations.
“Due to uncertainty about when we will receive funds for these Federal Title Programs, FPS is pausing some of our trainings and activities that are supported by the funds,” according to FPS Chief Communications Officer AnnMarie Campbell.
“This was communicated to impacted staff members on Thursday. If and when we receive our allocations of federal funds, we will reinstitute our training and activities. We have also begun to plan alternative ways to deliver training and support to schools.”
Campbell says the affected programs include:
Title II, Part A – Preparing, Training, and Recruiting High Quality Educators,
Title III – English Language Instruction
Title IV, Part A – Student Support and Academic Enrichment
One of the programs affected is the New Hire Bootcamp, which affects 60 new teachers.
“While several components of the Bootcamp remain in place, such as classroom management training and math curriculum training, a few sessions have been suspended pending clarification of funding,” said Campbell.
Other items currently on pause include curriculum writing sessions, additional take-home books for elementary school students, principal mentorship, and potential attendance at conferences.
Campbell says at this time, FPS has not received official word of any funding cuts. She says they are awaiting additional information from the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction.
School districts across the nation are dealing with similar federal funding issues.
