ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) — Governor Tim Walz today declared a peacetime emergency and directed state agencies to provide additional assistance to support recovery efforts following severe storms that caused widespread damage to property and critical infrastructure in Beltrami County.
“Minnesota will deploy every available resource to aid communities throughout Beltrami County as they recover from storms that brought hurricane-force winds, devastated infrastructure, and left thousands without power,” Walz said. “I’m grateful for the tireless work and rapid response from emergency management officials, first responders, and community members. Together we will rebuild and heal.”
The emergency order allows state support for emergency responders in affected communities. The Department of Public Safety’s Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management will continue coordinating on-site support for local government, and state agencies will provide additional assistance where needed.
Last week, Governor Walz visited the Bemidji area to survey storm damage and meet with emergency management officials.
