MINNEAPOLIS (KFGO) – Police are investigating after an 11-year-old boy was shot and killed at a north Minneapolis park Monday afternoon.
Police Chief Brian O’Hara says three vehicles were driving in or near the park when gunfire erupted. A resident heard cries for help and found the boy with a life-threatening gunshot wound.
The man put the boy and another boy in his vehicle and began driving to a hospital when he saw a police officer. First responders arrived and tried saving the boy, but he died at the scene.
“I cannot emphasize enough how terrible it is to have an 11-year-old boy shot and killed in the middle of the day,” O’Hara said.
O’Hara does not know if the boy was an unintended target. He is asking anyone with information to contact Minneapolis Police.
