ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO/WCCO) – Gov. Tim Walz is reacting to the US military action against Iran by saying Minnesota is on heightened alert, while noting that there’s no known threats to the state.
Walz posted his statement overnight on social media.
Minnesota congressman Tom Emmer, who’s also the House Republican whip, praised the military action and added that a nuclear Iran poses a threat to the middle east and the world. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar called it a dangerous and reckless escalation of an already volatile conflict between Iran and Israel.
Defense secretary Pete Hegseth, who grew up in Forest Lake, said the attack achieved its goals.
“It was an incredible and overwhelming success,” said Hegseth during the early morning press conference at the Pentagon. “The order received from our commander in chief was focused, it was powerful, and it was clear. We devastated the Iranian nuclear program.”
Hegseth noted Iranian troops and civilians were not targeted during the attacks on three different sites, adding that President Trump seeks peace.
“Iran should take that path,” Hegseth said.
North Dakota Sens. Kevin Cramer and John Hoeven praised the decision, saying Iran can never have nuclear weapons.
