JAMESTOWN, N.D. (KFGO) – A Jamestown man has been charged in a lengthy standoff with police in Jamestown that began early Wednesday morning and ended that afternoon.
Jacob Schmitt, 30, is charged with misdemeanors and several felonies.
Police responded to a mobile home park after a woman reported that Schmitt, who came to the home a couple of days prior, refused to leave. She said she believed Schmitt was using drugs and had not slept in days.
The woman and three children were able to escape, but court documents say Schmitt took a two-year-old back inside. The James Valley Special Operations Team was activated.
Residents living nearby were told to shelter in place. The team entered the home, removed the child and arrested Schmitt.
A police officer says Schmitt told him that he would “burn” the woman on a cross and called her a “witch.”
