TWO HARBORS, Minn. (KFGO/KDAL) – Three people were injured, two seriously, when a van crashed into a scissor lift in a construction zone in the Lafayette Tunnel on Highway 61 in northeast Minnesota Wednesday afternoon.
The State Patrol says the van entered the construction zone, hit multiple orange barrels, and then hit the scissor lift that was extended to the roof of the tunnel.
There were two workers on the lift. One was able to grab a light fixture and pull himself up as the lift was hit.
The driver of the van, a 34-year-old Milwaukee man, and one of the workers were airlifted to a Duluth hospital with life-threatening injuries. The other worker has non life threatening injuries.
Both of the workers are from Duluth.
