COTTAGE GROVE, Minn. (KFGO) – More than three dozen soldiers from the Minnesota National Guard flew home to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Wednesday after serving a 10-month deployment in the Middle East. Eleven of the soldiers received the Bronze Star medal “For heroic and meritorious service.”
The approximately 40 National Guard members are part of the 204th Medical Company Area Support based in Cottage Grove. They ensured that advanced trauma management and emergency medical treatment services were readily available, increasing overall medical care. Their knowledge and expertise allowed for treatment of 1,846 patients, and 30 medical evacuations.
According to the National Guard, many of the 11 bronze star medal recipients were exposed to attacks at Al Asad air base in Iraq when 180 missiles were launched in an attack October of last year.
