MOSCOW (Reuters) -A Russian court has sentenced Leonid Volkov, a senior ally of late opposition leader Alexei Navalny, to 18 years in prison in absentia, the TASS state news agency reported on Wednesday.
Volkov lives outside Russia.
Russia has designated Navalny’s political movement as an extremist organisation, a move the late politician’s allies say was designed to close down any meaningful political opposition to President Vladimir Putin.
