Anastasia (Stacy) Vaughn Otter Tail Co. Jail
FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (KFGO DAILY JOURNAL MEDIA) – A Fergus Falls woman has been sentenced after pleading guilty to child endangerment for leaving her infant grandchild in a ditch in the cold near her home south of Fergus Falls in October of last year.
Anastasia (Stacy) Vaughn, 52, was given 492 hours of community service and credit for the four days she had spent in jail.
Vaughn admitted to mixing alcohol with prescription drugs, becoming extremely intoxicated and unable to care for the baby. She was confronted by someone passing by. Vaughn put the baby on the ground and went back into her home. The bystander placed the child in their car and called police. Police found Vaughn in the woods. She was stumbling and had bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. She will also be on probation for two years and cannot have unsupervised contact with any child under the age of 16 during that time. Vaughn was ordered not to drink or use non-prescribed medications while on probation.
Vaughn’s attorney argued that she had been a remarkable member of the community and volunteered for many non-profit organizations. He called her behavior a mistake and said she’s working hard to grow as a person.
Vaughn was sentenced by Otter Tail County District Judge Michael Fritz.
