FARGO (KFGO) – A large police presence in south Fargo on Tuesday ended with no arrests, and police are asking for the public’s help locating a man.
Fargo Police say it started when they were called to the 2100 block of 21st Ave. S. around 3 p.m. Tuesday for a man with outstanding warrants. The man, 27-year-old Shelby Whitt, fled before officers arrived. Two people tried to stop him from driving off by stepping in front of the vehicle, and suffered minor injuries. Officers tracked Whitt to the area near the YWCA shelter near the intersection of 32nd Ave. S. and University Drive. A large perimeter was established, and officers were seen searching the area with K9 units and a drone.
Police found the vehicle Whitt had been driving, but did not locate him. Anyone with information is asked to contact Red River Regional Dispatch at 701-451-7660.
Whitt is wanted for leaving the scene of an accident and reckless endangerment. North Dakota court records show Whitt also has active warrants for driving with a suspended license and fleeing. He has an extensive criminal history in both North Dakota and Minnesota, including 29 burglary and theft convictions, along with several drug possession and driving under suspension convictions. He had also been convicted of assault, fleeing, and fraud.
