BOSTON – A court order by Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison and a coalition of 20 other attorneys general has stopped the Trump administration’s order to eliminate the Department of Education.
On Thursday, a Massachusetts district court judge agreed with the coalition’s claims that the move to fire half of the department’s employees would be “illegal and unconstitutional.” The decision also orders that those fired in the recent mass layoffs of the department be reinstated.
Ellison says he looks forward to continuing to litigate the case and stand up for students, teachers, administrators, and paraprofessionals.
