PEORIA, Ill. – Two teenagers were taken into custody on Peoria’s South Side Tuesday afternoon on weapons charges.
Peoria Police says officers were called at around 4:30 P.M. in the area of Malone and Westmoreland, finding four males walking southbound.
Two of the males, a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old, reportedly fled on foot when police attempted to make contact with the four, but were apprehended after a brief chase.
Police allegedly found a loaded handgun during a search of the suspect’s flight path in the area of Starr and Westmoreland.
The 16-year-old was arrested on charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Handgun Under 21, No FOID, and Resisting Police.
He was taken to the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
The 17-year-old was released to the custody of his parents.
