WEST PEORIA, Ill. – Despite a change in ownership in January, a West Peoria liquor store is still having the same problems.
25 News reports West Peoria Liquors, formerly known as Express Liquors, was cited by the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office for selling alcohol to minors on Tuesday.
The store got new owners in January after the previous owners faced numerous fines and had its liquor license revoked.
West Peoria Mayor James Dillon says a sting operation by deputies occurred, after he was informed of teenagers buying alcohol from the store two weeks ago.
He says a harsher punishment may be warranted this time around.
“In this case, the seriousness of it, I don’t think that it just warrants a fine, I think it may warrant a fine and a shutdown for a period of time,” Dillon said.
The clerk who sold the alcohol to the underaged informant is facing charges.
